So, you’re thinking of planning an event and you’d like to know more about the Carriage House?
I’m so very glad you’re here!
Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Lisa, the Events Coordinator at The Carriage House, and I know this venue well, not only because I am the Events Coordinator here, but because I planned my own daughter’s wedding reception here just a few years ago. Needless to say, I fell in love with this exquisite space, so when my daughter and son-in-law purchased the property in August, 2019, and asked if I would like to come on board, I jumped at the chance for this new adventure. (I have always loved weddings and was excited for the opportunity to learn something new!) Of course, the opportunity to work with my family (and be near my grands) was far too good to pass up!
I can’t wait to meet you in person to talk about your big day, but I thought it might be nice if you knew a little more about me. I worked in the Hamblen County School System for more than 20 years before coming to work here in the Spring of 2020. I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and spent a decade in Atlanta, Georgia. My husband, Robert, and I have been married 36 years and have two beautiful daughters and two precious granddaughters; you could say that Bette Midler’s The Rose is our song.
Outside of work, I love to read—The Secret Garden and To Kill a Mockingbird are my favorites. I also enjoy cooking and spending time with my family. I’m a member of the Arrowhead Church and actively volunteer in our community. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I am partial to roses; my father-in-law grew some phenomenally beautiful ones in gorgeous and unique hues. I adore chocolate, and oh when I’m not cheering for our Vols, War Eagle!
I spent some good quality time with the previous owners to learn about operating a venue, but I also learned that every event is different, and nothing compares to sheer hands-on experience!
My favorite part of being the events coordinator at this particular wedding venue? I just love getting to know all the brides, grooms, and families that allow us to make their wedding days special. I’ve always been a people person and there’s no better time to make a connection than during events that bring excitement and joy to friends and family. You know, nothing compares to getting the “first look” with the father of the bride. (It gets me every time!) A few of the brides who have walked through these doors are former students whom I’ve known since they were children. The opportunity to reconnect during such a memorable moment in their lives is an absolute honor.
Are there glitches? Of course. No wedding day would be complete without one. Trust me, we handle these hiccups with grace so that you can concentrate on the big picture (and not look too stressed in your wedding photos)!
Remind me to tell you about the time a bride discovered a broken earring before the ceremony—oh but, no worries. We got that earring fixed and the bride walked down the aisle looking every bit the way she’d planned! I did spend the rest of the event trying to determine the best way to remove superglue from my now seemingly permanently affixed thumb and forefinger, though… Seeing her walk down the aisle with a smile on her face in our beautiful wedding venue made superglued fingers seem a nominal sacrifice.
My promise to you, should you give us the honor of hosting your wedding or other event here at The Carriage House, is that I’ll do all I can to help you make your event uniquely yours, and as stress-free as possible. Our goal here is to be versatile, accommodating, and offer you the opportunity to customize this amazing space so that your event reflects you and everything you envision. From the building to the grounds, it’s a stunning wedding venue. In fact, we believe it is head and shoulders over most. Please come see it for yourself—you won’t be sorry you did.
All my best,
Lisa
