What’s a picture, really?
One definition tells us that a picture is simply a visual representation of a moment in time. Perhaps it’s more the point of a picture: to collar the allure of a special or sacred moment to regain the feelings it evoked or to bring new ones to the viewer… and there are perhaps no pictures so precious as those from the celebrations of our lives: births, weddings, special events, and moments of recognition for accomplishments.
Photography, often best accomplished from the background of the wedding venue, is an integral (if near silent) part of the day. There are so many important moments to capture: The bridal party as they finalize hair and makeup. The offering of vows. The late-night send-off of the newlyweds. Every moment is one that can be shared with family and friends (especially those who couldn’t make the main event), hung on wall of a freshly painting home on move-in day, shared on social media with the close and far away community that rallies around the couple if only virtually, and treasured decades later as the couple holds tight to beloved memories.
I’ve been married 31 years, with two daughters (one married) and two granddaughters, the memories captured in my most prized photographs include those celebrating birthdays, graduations, weddings, and so much more.
From the less-than-stellar film pictures of the 1980s where red eye was always a problem to today’s iPhone photos of my granddaughters, it’s the people and the moments captured in each image that stir my deepest feelings. I want every couple to be able to capture their own special moments in a unique personal way as they create memories here at the Carriage House, a wedding venue that is certain to hold endless opportunities.
So, what makes the best pictures? Everything. The people. The emotion. The lighting. The colors. At the Carriage House, we have countless options for the perfect staging of a photo. It starts with the privacy of the estate here in Dry Hollow. No matter which direction your photographer aims, the setting of this charming wedding venue is beautiful and full of colors to create that perfect backdrop. As you come around the bend on Sellers Rd, the timeless white fence and the grand white barn appear first. Then, you’ll notice the impeccably manicured lawn and landscaping. The grass seems to be impossibly green and the flowers are vibrant splashes of pink and white. The sunflowers of summer boast a splendid bright yellow and the leaves in autumn are an array of beautiful, rich earth tones. Some of my favorite photos are timed perfectly at dusk as the sun sets over the mountain– capturing the grandeur of the sunset in the majesty that God has created.
If you need help finding a photographer for your own photo session or wedding at The Carriage House, please let me know. I have a list of experienced photographers that have proven their skill in capturing those special moments here and I would be more than glad to assist your photographer by offering his or her own tour of the estate, showcasing the countless staging opportunities at our wedding venue and discussing staging based on backdrop and lighting. While I can guide and suggest, your photographer is the artist who captures all those tiny details, so our goal is to prepare him or her — and perhaps inspire some shots that will someday hang on your own living room wall. The people in that photograph will mean the most, of course. The Carriage House is simply the perfect backdrop to your visual representation of a moment in time. We can’t wait to see what develops!
All my best,
Lisa
