With modern weddings, few things have changed more than the invitations. There are so many options today. Let’s talk about why invitations are important and look at some of your options.
Amanda Mays Photos took the photo of the wedding invitation suite that I featured with today’s blog. Isn’t it beautiful?
Your guests first impression of your wedding is set by your invitations. You want the invitations to set the tone for the day. Is your wedding modern, formal, trendy, or casual? Whatever the feel you are creating for the day, know your invitations will be your first step in that direction.
Today it’s more than the design of the invitation that is used in the presentation. The delivery method also plays a part. Are you going to mail the invitations or email them? Many people still choose to mail invitations as they feel it makes the event feel more special. The written invitations are also a keepsake for the day.
Many couples send out save the dates to help their guests plan ahead. A general rule is to send these out 8-12 months before your wedding. If you have a shorter engagement, simply send them out as soon as you have your venue reserved. This allows your guests who have to travel to plan accordingly.
When choosing paper invitations, you may feel a bit overwhelmed. Think about the design you are trying to accomplish. After you have an idea of this, you will want to select the type of printing, embossing, or debossing. Whichever of these methods you select will then point you toward your paper options.
If you are using an online vendor for your invitation suite, you can request a paper sample to confirm your selection aligns with your vision.
A fun detail to consider are the stamps that go on your invitations. Know that if you select a square invitation it will cost more than standard postage to mail it. Also if you select a heavier weight paper and have multiple pieces to your invitation suite, this may also require additional postage. There are LOVE stamps released nearly every year which many couples use. You can also pick a stamp that goes along with your theme.
Traditionally the RSVP card and stamped envelope is included as part of the wedding invitation. Some couples have chosen to forgo the paper version and instead ask guests to RSVP online. In today’s age, this allows people to take quick action. Some modern invitations include a QR code to easily direct guests to the RSVP page. Couples are also able to save money on additional cards, envelopes and stamps when selecting this method.
